“When life puts you in a tough situation, don’t ask ‘Why me?’ but say ‘Try Me!’” believes Ramya B. Back in September 2017, a low phase in her personal life and a troubled marital relationship made every path ahead appear like a roadblock to her. But these were the challenges that pushed her to take a bold stand, getting her close to the beautiful sport of running.
Backed by ambassadors of a well-reputed run, Sharada Raman and Swati Rathod – who Ramya calls her pillars – she started taking baby steps. They began right from scratch, taught her the ‘Pole-to-Pole’ technique and enabled Ramya to register for the 2017 edition of the run in Mumbai. Though, like every beginner, her mind was full of doubts on whether she would be able to make it to the finish line or not, she decided to go for it anyway.
Since then, there has been no looking back for Ramya. In 2018, she ran a couple of 10K runs and progressed to a half-marathon by December. With barely any formal training, she managed to complete the 21 km marathon in 2 hours and 50 minutes and followed it up with a half marathon at the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019, clocking a time of 2 hours and 43 minutes.
Being a single mother juggling personal and professional commitments, running started to a backseat in Ramya’s life soon. That is when her association with running coach Girish Bindra helped her plan and train more efficiently. A member of the Asics Running Club, Ramya’s run buddies have always motivated her, constantly encouraging her to run. These efforts helped Ramya rekindle her love for the sport and hence her sisterhood is called ‘The Pacemakers’.
Sisterhood of running has made Ramya stronger and pushed her to work relentlessly in the pursuit of her dreams. If you’ve got an inspiring Sisterhood of Running story like Ramya, write to us at email@example.com and you may just get featured.
