World’s finest athletes & India's best gear-up for Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020

Over 55,000 runners to take the streets of Mumbai tomorrow, a World Athletics Gold Label Race 

Run As One, TMM first virtual race will see 3000+ runners across different categories

The stage is set for the 17th edition of the prestigious Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020 to be held tomorrow, Sunday, 19th January. With a record participation of over 55,000 runners, the World Athletes Gold Label Road Race 2020 will be flagged off from outside the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST). 

This year will observe the participation of 9, 660 runners in the Full Marathon, 15,260 in Half Marathon, 8,032 in Timed 10K, 19,707 in Dream Run, 1,022 runners in Senior Citizens Run, and 1,596 in Champions with Disability. Women's participation has surged to 35%, while the outstation participation and full marathon participation saw a growth of 22% and 15% respectively.  

In the men’s elite race, leading the pack is the fastest man in the field – Cosmas Lagat from Kenya -- with a personal best of  2:09:15, aiming for Tata Mumbai Marathon course record, whereas in the women's category, Worknesh Alemu of Ethiopia, with her personal best time of 2:25:45 is all set to defend women’s title. 

Leading the Indian elite men full marathon is Army’s Srinu Bugatha, who won the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon and the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2019 editions, finishing the race in 1:04:33 and 1:18:31, respectively in the last two months. Challenging him will be Rashpal Singh, Silver Medalist in Kathmandu South Asian Games 2019 along with Rahul Pal, winner of the Pune International Marathon 2019.

Sudha Singh, Olympian and Arjuna Awardee, will head the Women’s Full marathon pack and is all set to make a hat-trick this year. Sudha won her first title in 2016 and after a year’s gap, she clinched the titles in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Sudha will be challenged by Jyoti Gawte who won the Mumbai Marathon in 2017.

The men's half marathon will see Belliappa A.B. leading the men's pack whereas, in the women's half marathon, veteran athlete Swati Gadhave will face opposition from 2019 runner-up & winner of 2018 edition, Monica Athare. 

As part of the distance running tradition, promoters Procam International conducted a fun interactive carbo-loading Pasta Cook-out with various sponsors and partners of the event.  

The race day will see the various prominent popular celebrity faces and some of the biggest sponsors and spectators cheering up for the runners. Present on the race day will be Shri Uddhav Thackeray, Chief Minister, Govt of Maharashtra, Kiren Rijiju, Sports Minister, Govt of India, Shri Ajit Pawar, Dy CM, Shri Anil Deshmukh (Home Minister), Shri Sunil Kedar, Sports Minister, Govt of Maharashtra and Shri Aditya Thackeray. 

Cheering all the participants from the sidelines will be the International Event Ambassador, Gymnastic legend, Seven-Time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion, Shannon Miller along with Youth Icon and Face of the event Tiger Shroff.

Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020 brings ‘Run your way’ that will give chance to the runners to express themselves in a unique way by donning a funky costume or by singing one's favorite song or recite a poem or anything that brings the best from any individual.

The Amateur Marathon will start at- 5:15 am from CST, followed by Half Marathon at- 5:15 am from Worli Dairy, Timed 10K Run which starts at 6:20am, Full Marathon Elite Men and Women at- 7:20am from CST. These will be followed by the Champions with Disability at 7:25 am, the Senior Citizens’ Run at 7:45 am, and the Dream Run at 8.05 am.

Race Day proceedings will be live on Star Sports Select 2, Star Sports Select 2 HD and Hotstar the Channel Partner from 7.00 am to 11.30 am.
